TREATMENT PROCEDURES AND DOSAGE
Dip. As a disease treatment add enough stock solution to produce a concentration of 10 ppm (mg/L) (37.8 mg/gal). Fish should remain in the dip solution for not more than 30 minutes. This procedure must not be carried out in aquariums with established bio-filtration. Note: In the event of stress, immediately transfer fish to untreated water for recovery.
Reducing Dissolved and Suspended Organics. To reduce dissolved and suspended organics in ponds and aquariums, add enough stock solution to produce an initial concentration of 3 to 5 ppm. As the original water changes from purple to opaque brown, make a partial water change. This will usually occur within 24 hours. Caution: It is recommended that additional aeration be provided, especially in ponds, during treatment at high water temperatures. Good circulation and mechanical filtration must always be provided while using this product. Potassium permanganate can increase dissolved carbon dioxide due to its normal oxidation reaction.
Directions for Making a Stock Solution:
Because of the relative inaccuracy involved in measuring crystals by volume, this product should only be measured by weight. To achieve the recommended concentration, a stock solution should be made and stored in an amber glass bottle. Use 0.03839 grams (38.39 mg) per mL of total solution (145.3 g/gal). Stock solution, when used at a rate of 1 teaspoon (5 mL) per 10 gallons will produce a concentration of 5.0 ppm; 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons will produce a concentration of 10 ppm.
WARNING! STRONG OXIDIZER!
Contact with other material may cause fire. All clothing contaminated with permanganates is dangerously flammable. Remove and wash thoroughly with water. Do not spill on floor. Spillage may react with other materials and cause fire. Sweep up and remove any spills. Keep away from open flame. When not in use keep container tightly closed in original container. Store separate from flammable materials.
ANTIDOTE : If swallowed call a physician or Poison Control Center. Drink 1 or 2 glasses of water and induce vomiting by touching back of throat with finger, do not induce vomiting or give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
